Cross Country Slated for Pair of Meets
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 17, 2024) – South Carolina Cross Country is set to compete in two meets this weekend splitting the squad between the Crimson Classic and Upstate Invite. The Gamecocks running in Tuscaloosa are set to start on Friday, Oct. 18 at 10:20 a.m. (ET) at the Harry Pritchett Running Park while the runners in the Spartanburg are set to start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Milliken Arboretum.

CRIMSON CLASSIC
PARTICIPATING TEAMS
The Gamecocks will face 17 other teams this weekend in Alabama, including nationally ranked opponents Alabama (No. 7), Florida (No. 11) and No.15 Tennessee. The Gamecocks will also face Clemson, who sits at 5th in the Southeast Regional, for the second consecutive meet. South Carolina enters the weekend slated 12th in the region.
GAMECOCK RUNNERS
The Gamecocks will take 19 runners this Friday to the Crimson Classic to run the 6K event. South Carolina comes off a fifth-place finish at the Live in Lou Classic behind nationally ranked West Virginia. Continuing to headline the squad is freshman Teresa Cherotich who claimed seventh overall at the Live in Lou with a personal best in the 5K in a time of 16:54.2, the third-fastest 5K in Gamecock history. Seven Gamecocks heading to Tuscaloosa cracked the top 50 program history including Mary Frances Iseman who ran 17:41.3 for the 17th best time and Cate Conklin who posted the 20th fastest 5K at 17:49.1.
Anya Arroyo, Emma Torbert, Siobhan Joyce, Abigail White, and Hannah Vroon will enter the race Friday off a 5K PR in Louisville.
UPSTATE INVITE
GAMECOCK RUNNERS
South Carolina will take seven runners on the trip to the Upstate on Saturday, with the majority making their season debut for the Gamecocks. Maddie White and Elle Mehltretter will lead the squad with a race already under their belt, both coming off personal bests in their respective races. Maddie Smith will make her cross country debut while Hayden Withers, Sarah Neville, Greta White and Ella Zeigler will make their season debuts.
