Myring's Five-Point Night Leads Gamecocks Over Monarchs
NORFOLK, Va. – Harrison Myring’s five-point night led the South Carolina men’s soccer team (9-3-2, 4-3) to a 3-1 victory at Old Dominion (5-7-2, 1-5-1) Sunday night (Oct. 27)
Myring becomes the second Carolina player this season with two goals and an assist in a match, joining Ethan Ballek who accomplished it against Winthrop. It’s also Myring’s second multi-goal game of the season.
ODU out-shot the Gamecocks 13-9 but Carolina led 9-6 in shots on goal. The Monarchs also led 7-to-2 in corner kicks. South Carolina goalkeeper Filip Versterre finished with five saves.
Myring got the scoring start for Carolina in the 16th minute. Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez played a long ball from the left side across the box, where Camden Kowalski headed it to the middle of the 6-yard box. The ball found Myring who put it home into the wide-open net.
Leading at the half, Myring extended the lead in the 69th minute. Ethan Ballek played a ball up to Myring who again beat the ODU goalkeeper. Myring’s first shot was blocked by a defender, but he was able to gather the rebound and put it home for his ninth goal of the season.
Less than three minutes later it was Myring finding Ballek open near the top of the penalty box. He settled the ball and beat the Monarch goalie one-on-one to the bottom left corner for his ninth of the season.
Old Dominion’s lone goal came on a penalty kick 40 seconds later.
Carolina wraps up the road portion of its regular season when the Gamecocks travel to UCF November 1 at 7 p.m.
