Biggar Named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week
NEW ORLEANS – South Carolina men’s soccer defender Jonah Biggar was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week today (Oct. 29).
Biggar earns his first career Player of the Week honor and becomes the second Gamecock this season to earn the award.
The sophomore helped Carolina to a pair of conference victories on the week over James Madison and Old Dominion. He played all 90 minutes in both matches.
On Wednesday, Biggar capped off South Carolina’s 3-1 victory over JMU, scoring with 1:05 left in the match. He was credited with an assist on William Nilsson’s game-winning goal in the 50th minute.
In Carolina’s win at Old Dominion Sunday, Biggar led the defensive backline that held the Monarchs without a goal, with the lone goal coming on a penalty kick. Biggar and South Carolina limited ODU to five shots on goal in the match.
Biggar and the Gamecocks return to action November 1 at UCF for a 7 p.m. match.
