Women's Soccer Hosts SEC Regular Season Champs on Wednesday
COLUMBIA, SC – No. 14 South Carolina women’s soccer (8-1-7, 5-1-3) will take on No. 3 Mississippi State for the final match of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on SECN+.
LAST TIME OUT
No. 22 South Carolina upset the No. 13 Auburn Tigers at home on Sunday, 2-1. Fifth-year Cat Barry and senior Emma Bucci recorded goals for the Gamecocks.
- The Gamecocks took the first four shots of the game, followed by a shot from Catherine Barry connecting on a header from rookie Katie Shea Collins in the 16th minute, only for Collins to be called offsides and the goal overturned.
- South Carolina took three corners to Auburn’s one in the first half, with one in the 43rd minute getting blocked after a shot out of sophomore Autumn Cayelli, before giving senior Emma Bucci the chance to score in the lower left to make things 1-1.
- The South Carolina defense and keeper, Christina Tsaousis, held the Tigers to five shots throughout the first half with no goals, until the final ten seconds when Auburn landed one in the top right to tie it up before entering halftime.
- In the 48th minute, Catherine Barry took a monster cross from the right corner of the field that bounced off the left post and into the net for her 12th goal of the season and the 45th of her career to put the Gamecocks up 2-1
- The Tigers took 14 shots throughout the game with only one resulting in a goal, while Gamecock keeper Christina Tsaousis marked five saves throughout the game
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Wednesday’s matchup with Mississippi State will be the 22nd in program history. The Gamecocks hold a 13-5-3 advantage over the Bulldogs, and have won eight of the last 10 matchups.
The pair last faced off in 2022, with South Carolina taking home a 1-0 victory on the road.
The Bulldogs head into the match the No. 3 team in the country, most recently defeating Texas A&M at home 2-0 to clinch the SEC regular season title.
