Gamecocks to Take on Alabama in Quarterfinals of SEC Tournament

COLUMBIA, SC – Fourth-seeded South Carolina Women’s Soccer (8-2-7, 5-2-3) is set to take on the No. 12 seed of Alabama in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. The game will kickoff on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 8:00 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network.

LAST TIME OUT

No. 14 ranked South Carolina fell to the No. 2 Mississippi State Bulldogs in their final regular season game, 2-1.

The Gamecocks opened the scoring early with a goal from fifth-year Catherine Barry in the 10th minute from Corinna Zullo. Barry now stands alone at the top of the SEC this season with 13 goals; it was the 46th of her career. The goal also marked just the fourth conceded goal for Mississippi State this season.

The South Carolina defense and junior keeper Tina Tsaousis kept the Bulldogs at bay heading into the break, leading 1-0.

After a possession battle to open up the second half, midfielder Hannah Johnson took advantage in the 63rd minute to even up the score at one each.  Mississippi State struck again in the 73rd minute with a goal by Kennedy Husbands to put the Bulldogs ahead, 2-1.

The Gamecocks pushed back hard in the final minutes but ultimately came up short for their first loss of the season on their home turf.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON TIDE

Tuesday’s matchup with Alabama will be the 25th in program history. South Carolina leads Alabama 16-5-1 overall and have won eight of the last 10 matchups. The pair last faced off in October, with the Gamecocks nabbing a 3-1 win at home.

South Carolina and Alabama took each other on back in the 2022 SEC Championship, when the Gamecocks won their third SEC tournament title after a 1-0 victory over the Crimson Tide. Current fifth-year Brianna Behm scored the game-winner.

Alabama heads into the quarterfinals after defeating Vanderbilt 2-1, seeing goals from Nadia Ramadan and Zivana Labovic.
