Gamecocks to Face Top-Seeded Mississippi State in SEC Semifinal

COLUMBIA, SC – Fourth-seeded South Carolina Women’s Soccer (9-2-7, 5-2-3) will play the No. 1 seed Mississippi State on Thursday, Nov. 7 in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament. The game will kick off at 4:30 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gamecocks blew past Alabama in the quarterfinals of the tournament, beating the 12-seeded Crimson Tide 4-1. Fifth-year Catherine Barry broke South Carolina’s program record for most career points after scoring two penalty kick goals, bringing ger total to 121 and counting. The Gamecocks also saw two first-time career goals from sophomores Amanda Patrick and Autumn Cayelli.

Patrick opened the scoring 11 minutes in for South Carolina with an assist from sophomore Cuyler Zulauf. Cayelli’s goal came with 15 minutes left to play on an assist from junior Kinley Brown for her first career assist.

Junior goalkeeper Tina Tsaousis made six saves to help the Gamecocks secure the win.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Mississippi State is coming off of a double overtime 2-1 quarterfinal win against nine-seeded Tennessee. The Bulldogs scored in the 111th minute to move onto the semifinals thanks to a lightning-fast goal from senior Aitana Martinez-Montoya. The goal was assisted by senior Hannah Johnson.

The last time the Bulldogs and the Gamecocks matched up was just last week for both teams’ regular-season finale. South Carolina got on the board after Barry found the back of the net in the 10th minute, but Mississippi State took home the 2-1 win with second-half goals from Johnson and freshman Kennedy Husbands.

Thursday’s matchup with Mississippi State will be the 23rd in program history. The Gamecocks hold a 13-6-3 advantage over the Bulldogs, and have won eight of the last 11 matchups.
