Gamecocks Travel to North Carolina for ITA Sectionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis is all set for the final tournament before NCAA Individual Championships. The Gamecocks will head to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the ITA Sectional Championships from Nov. 7 – 10.

No. 45 Casey Hoole, Sean Daryabeigi and Lucas da Silva will represent the Garnet in singles play while Connor Thomson joins Hoole for doubles action.

On the first day of the event, Sean Daryabeigi faces Mans Dahlbery of University of Virginia, Casey Hoole takes on Wake Forest’s Luciano Tacchi and Lucas da Silva competes against Pablo Ramos of New Jersey Institute of Technology. All three Gamecocks begin their matches at 10:00 a.m. No. 24 Hoole and Connor Thomson, seeded first in doubles for this tournament, play UVA’s Mans Dahlbery and Dylan Dietrich at 1:30 p.m. Jelani Sarr and Lucas da Silva play brother Codie and Connor Schalkwyk from Old Dominion at the same time. Complete draws, schedules and results will be posted on the ITA Tournament Page.

South Carolina is coming off of a successful run at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational last weekend. Hoole dominated his singles matches, overall winning the A3 draw stage. Additionally, all three doubles entered in the event (Connor Thomson & Casey Hoole, Max Stenzer & Atakan Karahan, Jelani Sarr & Lucas da Silva) swept the tournament after winning their respective stages. The Gamecocks made history as well, as Thomson became the new program record holder for combined singles and doubles victories after his performances at Wake Forest. The grad student has accumulated 199 wins so far throughout his time with Carolina.

Under the new format for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, players and doubles teams in the ITA Sectional Championships can qualify right into the NCAA Championships bracket. The six singles finalists in each section (central, east, south, west) will punch their ticket directly into the NCAA Singles Championships, and three doubles teams from each section will join them in the NCAA Doubles Championships.
