Gamecocks Advance Two Singles on Day One of ITA Sectionals
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis wrapped up the first day of the ITA Sectional Championship with two singles advancing to the next round.
Casey Hoole shook off a slow 5-7 start to Luciano Tacchi for the first set before bouncing back with scores of 6-4 for the following two sets to claim the win. He plays NC State’s Braden Shick at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow.
Lucas da Silva faced Pablo Perez of New Jersey Tech. He won the first set 6-3 before falling 1-6 for the second. The junior was able to conclude the match on top, winning 6-4 for the third set. Tomorrow he plays Luca Pow of Wake Forest at 12:00 p.m.
Sean Daryabeigi dropped his match to UVA’s Mans Dahlberg 5-7 and 4-6. The sophomore plays in the consolation draw stage against ODU’s Cosme Ravel tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
Hoole and Connor Thomson fell to UVA’s Mans Dahlbery and Dylan Dietrich 4-6, 5-7. The two will play in consolation tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against Cornell’s Adit Sinha and Nathan Mao.
Jelani Sarr and Lucas da Silva played were able to secure their spots as alternates and play against ODU brothers Codie and Connor Schalkwyk. The Gamecocks fell 2-6 in both sets. In the consolation bracket the two advanced from the qualifying quarterfinals after their opponents withdrew due to injury. The duo will play in the consolation semifinals as they made it past the quarterfinals due to a bye.
