Three Men’s Soccer Players Earn All-Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Three South Carolina men’s soccer players were named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Second Team it was announced Friday (Nov. 8). Ethan Ballek, Harrison Myring, and Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez all earned second team honors.

It’s the first time since 2018 that three Gamecocks have earned All-Conference honors and the first since 2016 three have been named to the second team or higher.

Harrison Myring earned his second career honor after being named to the C-USA All-Freshman team in 2021. The senior forward leads the team with 10 goals on the season, the most by a Gamecock since 2015. His 10 points also rank third in the league. Myring’s four goals in conference play are tied for fourth and his three game-winning goals are second in league play. He scored game winners against Georgia Southern, Old Dominion, and Georgia State. Myring had a career day against ODU, notching two goals and an assist.

In his first season with Carolina, Ballek has made an instant impact, tallying nine goals and five assists for 23 points, the most by a Gamecock since 2015. The junior matched Myring in league play, scoring four goals and  two assists. His 10 points also rank third in the league. Ballek has recorded a point in five of Carolina’s nine conference matches, including a multi-point game in a win over Coastal Carolina. He also scored the game-winning goal against Costal.

A freshman midfielder, Velazquez-Lopez has tallied four goals and five assists on the year. His five assists are tied for seventh most in program history by a freshman and the most since 2013. In league play, his three assists are tied for sixth among all players. In the win over James Madison,  Velazquez-Lopez tallied a pair of assists, including one on the game-winner.

South Carolina begins play in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Sunday at 7 p.m. against Kentucky.
