Three Gamecocks to Compete at Augusta National Women's Amateur in April

South Carolina Athletics

Hannah Darling (fourth appearance), Eila Galitsky (second appearance) and Louise Rydqvist (second appearance) accept invites to prestigious amateur event

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three members of the No. 3 South Carolina women’s golf team have accepted invitations to the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur (April 3-6). Three time All-American Hannah Darling (Scotland), two-time All-American Louise Rydqvist (Sweden) and freshman Eila Galitsky (Thailand) will all compete for a chance to hoist the trophy at Augusta National Golf Club in what has quickly become one of the best amateur golf events in the world.

The Augusta National Women’s Amateur was announced on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, by Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley during his annual press conference at the Masters Tournament. The event was established to inspire greater interest and participation in the women’s game by creating a new, exciting and rewarding pathway for these players to fulfill their dreams.

This year marks the sixth edition of the tournament.

The first two rounds of the 54-hole event will be played at Champions Retreat in Evans, Ga. The top-30 golfers and ties after 36 holes will advance to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday, April 6.

Darling will be making her fourth appearance while Rydqvist and Galitsky will each be making their second. Darling has made the cut twice in her three previous appearances with a career-best, seventh-place finish last year. She shot 215 (-1) and was the 18-hole leader thanks to a 66 (-6) the opening round at Champions Retreat. Galitsky finished T-8th in her debut last year and Rydqvist finished T-24th.

All three players are currently ranked in the top-20 of the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings. Rydqvist is No. 11, Darling is No. 15 and Galitsky is No. 18.

Galitsky becomes the eighth different Gamecock to play in the ANWA. Former All-American Pauline Roussin-Bouchard has the best finish by a Gamecock in the event as she T-3rd in 2021. She shot 70 (-2) in the final round and was one of just five players to post a red number in the final round at Augusta National Golf Club. Teammate and fellow All-American Ana Peláez Triviño also broke par in round three with a 71 (-1) that helped her finish 12th.

The Gamecocks open their spring season on Sunday at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge (Feb. 2-4) at Palos Verdes Golf Club outside of LA. Carolina is the defending champions at the event. Galitsky, who was a mid-year enrollee, will be making her Carolina debut.
