Jamarii Thomas scored a game-high 23 points to lead South Carolina
BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU (14-12, 3-10 SEC) hit 13 3s as it defeated South Carolina (10-16, 0-13 SEC), 81-67, on its home floor Tuesday night. Cam Carter led four Tiger players in double figures with 17 points.
LSU built a 14-point advantage the opening 20 minutes, shooting nearly 60 percent, to take a 41-27 lead at the break.
The Gamecocks cut the lead to nine, 51-42, with 13:26 to go after a made 3-point shot by Jamarii Thomas. Carolina then got a steal on its next defensive possession but squandered away a transition opportunity with a turnover in front of its own bench.
LSU responded with an 8-0 over the next 1:14 to build its lead to 17, 59-42, with 11:39 remaining in the game.
The victory was the Tigers’ second straight in league action after winning on the road on Saturday at Oklahoma.
Thomas led the Gamecocks with a game-high 23 points.
