
No. 8 Gamecocks Earn Two MOPs Against No. 3 Georgia
BISHOP, GA – No. 8 South Carolina Equestrian had a strong outing at No. 3 Georgia, but lost in a tight match 11-9. Despite the loss the Gamecocks took half the available MOPs, and defeated the Bulldogs on the Flat and in Reining.
Things got started in Fences, with Georgia taking the event 4-1. Freshman Amira Kettaneh kept the Bulldogs from a sweep, earning her point 87-81 over Jordan Toering on Constantine. Kettaneh now moves to 6-3-0 on the season in Fences.
Horsemanship followed, and the Bulldogs came out on top 4-1 to make things 8-2 overall at the half. Junior Carly Jenkins earned the sole point for the Gamecocks in the event, defeating Emma DeJong 73.5-73 on Garth. For her ride, Jenkins earned the first MOP of her career.
The Gamecocks came out swinging in the second half, taking down the Georgia 3-2 on the Flat and 3-1 in Reining to tighten the gap. On the Flat, Amira Kettaneh picked up the first point for South Carolina with a 90-85 win over Jordan Toering on James. Sophomore Sarah Rabb kept pace, brining in a career-high of 91 on Swank to take down Jessica Guginsky’s 85. Mary Hunter Millet rounded things out on Gabe, earning her point 87-76 over Isabella David.
The day concluded in Reining, with a tie to start things off after Chloe VanStone matched Raegan Shepherd’s 67.5 on Ty. Mattie McNeill picked up the first point with a 67.5-64.5 win against Kennedy Buchanan, followed by Haley Turner’s 68-60.5 on Odie. Chloe Stephenson wrapped up the day with a final point for the Gamecocks, winning 68.5-60.5 over Kinsey Cooper on Slash.
