Gamecocks Back on Road at No. 14/16 Missouri Tuesday Night

South Carolina Athletics

South Carolina facing its program-record, 13th AP Top-25 opponent of the season ; 9 p.m. (ET) tip on ESPNU

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (11-16, 1-13 SEC) hits the road again in the midweek for another late-night Tuesday tilt at No. 14/16 Missouri (20-7, 9-5 SEC). Kevin Fitzgerald (pxp) and Jon Sundvold (analyst) will be on the call for the 9 p.m. (ET) ESPNU broadcast.

It will be the Gamecocks 13th game this season against a ranked opponent, surpassing the 1999-00 squad for the most regular season games in program history against AP Top-25 teams.

Carolina snapped its 13-game losing streak Saturday night with an impressive 84-69 victory over Texas at Colonial Life Arena. Sophomore forward Collin Murray-Boyles had his second straight double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and three assists to help lead the team to victory. It was his eighth 20-point game of the season and his eighth double-double (third in SEC) this season, both career-best marks. Chris Silva was the last Gamecock to have 10 or more double-doubles for a single season when he had 12 in the 2017-18 season.

The local product from Columbia is one of just three players in Power Five (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten and SEC) averaging at least 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting above 50.0% from the floor (Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson and Maryland’s Derik Queen the others).

Murray-Boyles leads the SEC (30th nationally) in field goal percentage (min. five made FGs, per game) at 57.2% (162-of-283 FGs).

The Gamecocks swept the season series over Missouri last season, winning 71-69 in overtime at Mizzou Arena on Jan. 13, 2024. Jacobi Wright had 11 points off the bench and hit the game-winning shot with 13 seconds to go in overtime. It was just the team’s second win all-time at Mizzou Arena and first since the historic 2016-17 Final Four season.

The Tigers have won 3-of-4 in league action with an impressive 110-98 victory at home versus No. 4/4 Alabama last week. Missouri is 17-1 at home this season, its only loss 67-64 to No. 12/11 Texas A&M back on Feb. 8. They have three players who average at least 13.0 points per game in Mark Mitchell, Caleb Grill and Tamar Bates. The Tigers are eighth in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 83.7 points per game. They rank No. 4 in the nation in bench points (36.2). They also rank No. 3 in the country in free throw attempts (27.6) and free throws made (19.9), per game. Their 10.0 steals per game lead the SEC and rank No. 7 nationally. Former Gamecock Josh Gray leads Missouri in rebounding, averaging 5.1 boards, per game.
