Vols shot nearly 60% in the second half to pull away from Gamecocks in a game that was tied 34-34 at the half
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Chaz Lanier scored 23 points to lead No. 4 Tennessee to a 75-65 victory over South Carolina on Saturday.
The Volunteers (25-6, 12-6 SEC) wrapped up a double bye for the SEC Tournament. Cade Phillips came off the bench to score 15 points, Igor Milicic had 13 and Jordan Gainey added 10 points.
Jamarii Thomas scored 20 to lead the Gamecocks (12-19, 2-16 SEC). Nick Pringle had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Zachary Davis added 10 points.
Tennessee led by 10 points midway through the first half. South Carolina rallied with a 12-3 run. Thomas had 14 points and the score was tied at 34 at halftime.
Leading by three midway through the second half, Tennessee went on a 14-5 run from which South Carolina never recovered. Lanier had nine of those 14 points.
Tennessee shot better from the field (30-for-55, 54.5%) than from the free throw line (9-for-21, 42.9%).

- Senior transfer guard Jamarii Thomas led the Gamecocks with 20 points, hitting four 3s. He also led the team with four assists. It’s his third 20-point game of the season and the 14th of his career.
- Graduate forward Nick Pringle logged his third-straight game in double-figures with 16 points and 14 rebounds, his third double-double of the season and ninth of his career. His 14 boards were one shy of matching his career high of 15 set in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- Preseason All-SEC forward Collin Murray-Boyles saw his four-game streak with 20 or more points come to an end today at Thompson-Boling Arena. He had seven points, three rebounds and an assist in 26 minutes of action.
- Redshirt freshman Arden Conyers gave the Gamecocks a nice spark off the bench scoring nine points on a trio of corner 3s.

Carolina will head to Nashville next week for the SEC Tournament. The Gamecocks will face No. 9 seed Arkansas (19-12, 8-10 SEC) at 1 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday in the team’s first game at Bridgestone Arena. The Razorbacks beat No. 25 Mississippi State, 93-92, today at Bud Walton Arena to lock into the ninth-seed. Carolina beat Arkansas, 72-53, at home back on March 1.
