
Gamecocks Fall at No. 4 Texas
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 26 South Carolina men’s tennis team fell 0-4 to No. 4 Texas for the first conference matchup between the two teams in program history on Sunday afternoon.
The Gamecocks showed promise in doubles, securing an early win at the No. 2 position. The duo of Jelani Sarr and Atakan Karahan picked up their eighth win of the dual match season with a 6-3 victory over Texas’ Sebastian Gorzny and Jonah Braswell. The Longhorns answered back, claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the point. The No. 8-ranked pair of Timo Legout and Lucas Brown edged out No. 15 Connor Thomson and Lucas da Silva 6-4 at the top spot, while Pierre-Yves Bailly and Sebastian Eriksson sealed the advantage with a 6-4 win over Max Stenzer and Sean Daryabeigi.
In singles, Texas maintained control, winning three straight-set matches to clinch the overall victory. At No. 3 singles, No. 46 Pierre-Yves Bailly delivered a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 82 Daryabeigi to extend the Longhorns’ lead to 2-0. No. 3 Timo Legout followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 54 Thomson at the top position. Texas secured the win at No. 6 singles, where Lucas Brown defeated Gabe Avram 6-1, 7-5 to complete the sweep.
The Gamecocks return home on Thurs., April 3 to host Tennessee at 5:00 p.m.
