
Burnett Finishes T-4th to Lead Trio of Gamecocks at Ironwood

Graduate student from Hilton Head Island, S.C. shot 217 (+1) as she captured her fourth career top-five finish
GREENVILLE, N.C. – All three players for No. 5 South Carolina that competed as individuals at the ECU Ironwood Invitational the last two days finished in the top-15 on Tuesday as play concluded at Ironwood Golf & Country Club. Graduate Sophia Burnett led the group with a T-4th finish at 1-over.
She shot 217 (+1) with scores of 71-75-71. It was her fourth career top-five finish and second as a Gamecock. Burnett T-2nd in the field with 10 birdies over the course of 54-holes.
The French sophomore pair of Maylis Lamoure and Vairana Heck each also put together solid weeks. Lamoure T-9th at 6-over (222) with scores of 75-74-73. It’s her third top-10 of the season and the fourth of her career at South Carolina. Heck T-12th at 8-over (224) with scores of 74-74-76. It’s her third top-20 finish of the season and the eighth of her career. Heck led the field in par-5 scoring average (4.58, -5) and was one of only two players to make an eagle during the tournament.
The Gamecocks will be back in action again as a team at the SEC Championship (April 14-18) at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. Carolina earned the top-seed for match play last season as All-American Louise Rydqvist was runner-up medalist.
