Gamecocks Sweep Georgia 4-0
COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 21 South Carolina men’s tennis capped off a successful weekend at home with a commanding 4-0 win over No. 26 Georgia, securing its 10th SEC victory of the season.
The Gamecocks mirrored Thursday’s victory against Tennessee in doubles, taking the early edge in the match once again with wins from Max Stenzer & Sean Daryabeigi and Jelani Sarr & Atakan Karahan. Playing together for the second time this dual match season, Stenzer and Daryabeigi moved to a 2-0 record after striking first with a 6-3 victory. Moments later, Sarr and Karahan pulled off a major upset, topping No. 17 Thomas Paulsell and Ryan Colby 6-4, sealed by an ace from Sarr.
The Gamecocks kept the energy rolling into singles play, picking up first set wins across five courts. South Carolina then extended its lead to 2-0 with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 win from Sarr at the fifth position. The sophomore allowed only two games to reach a deuce throughout both sets.
Karahan followed with a steady 6-3, 6-3 win, notching his 12th victory of the season and putting South Carolina within one point of clinching the match.
The final point came from Connor Thomson who was playing at the top of the lineup. After fighting through a tight 7-5 first set, the graduate student cruised through the second 6-1 to secure the 4-0 sweep.
The Gamecocks close out the regular season at home on Sat., April 12, hosting Florida at 5:00 p.m.
