Mid-year enrollee led all SEC competitors with her T-4th finish at the ANWA last Saturday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Standout mid-year enrollee Eila Galitsky was named SEC Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday. The Chiang Mai, Thailand native finished T-4th at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur last Saturday thanks to her final round 66 (-6) at Augusta National Golf Club.
The low score tied Bailey Shoemaker (2024) for the lowest final round in tournament history at Augusta National. Her top-five finish was the second by a Gamecock in six years of the prestigious event (former All-American Pauline Roussin-Bouchard finished T-3rd in 2021) and she led all SEC competitors that were in the 71-player field at this year’s ANWA with her top-five finish.
Galitsky turned in a bogey free 31 (-5) on the front nine in the final round at Augusta National that featured a stretch on holes six thru eight that went birdie-birdie-eagle. The 31 was the first ever 5-under, nine-hole score at Augusta National in the six-year history of the ANWA. The only blemish on her scorecard in the final round was a bogey on hole 10 after she just missed the fairway left. She made birdie on the two par-5s on the back nine at holes 13 and 15. Galitsky also had good birdie opportunities on 14, 16, 17 and 18 coming into the clubhouse that just missed. She was dialed in with 17 greens in regulation hit.
Galitsky’s 54-hole total of 208 (-8) was the lowest score ever by a Gamecock in the ANWA.
This marks the freshman’s second SEC Freshman of the Week honor as she won the award after winning the Moon Golf Invitational back on Feb. 18 in just her second collegiate start. She shot 69 (-3) in the final round to force a playoff with the top-ranked amateur in the world, Lottie Woad of Florida State. Galitsky sunk a 35-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to bring home the individual title.
The No. 5 Gamecocks will return to the course for the SEC Championship April 14-18. Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. will play host to the conference tournament for the second consecutive year. Teams will play 54-holes of stroke play starting Monday to determine an individual SEC Champion. The top-eight teams after stroke play will advance to match play with quarterfinal and semifinal matches taking place Thursday. The title match will air live on SEC Network at 10 a.m. (ET) on Friday.
