No. 20 Gamecocks, Harris Take Fifth at The Ford

Carolina finishes the regular season with eight top-five finishes in its nine tournaments

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. – No. 20 South Carolina finished fifth at the Ford Collegiate on Tuesday in the team’s regular season finale before heading to the SEC Championship at Sea Island next week. Redshirt junior Frankie Harris also finished in the top-five as he T-3rd at 3-under for the tournament with a 54-hole total of 210.

Harris got into contention yesterday in round two with his 6-under 64 that featured seven birdies. He shot 71 (+1) in the final round today with a double bogey at the difficult 18th hole, a 507-yard par-4. The top-five finish is Harris’ fourth of the season (eighth career) in seven stroke play starts. Harris led the team and finished T-2nd in the field with 12 birdies over the last two days of competition at The Ford River & Golf Club.

In nine tournaments this season, the top-20 Gamecocks have finished in the top-five eight times under first-year head coach Rob Bradley. Carolina had the low second round yesterday with its 4-under 276 powered by Harris’ 64 to push up the leaderboard into the top-five.

Sophomore Brock Blais and senior All-American Nathan Franks each finished just outside the top-20, T-23rd at 5-over for the tournament. Blais logged scores of 71-72-72 and Franks posted scores of 73-70-72.

Junior Zach Adams shot 217 (+7) to finish T-33rd. The Charleston, S.C. native shot 72-70-75. Freshman Marek Fleming and sophomore Bo Carpenter each T-66th at 21-over.

No. 2 Texas fended off No. 7 LSU for the team title by two shots. The Longhorns were the only team in the field under par at 2-under. Georgia’s Buck Brumlow defeated teammate Grayson Wood on the first playoff hole 5-under. Wood had the low final round individual score with his 4-under 66.
