Gamecocks Open 2025 Home Slate With Win Over USF
COLUMBIA, SC – The South Carolina women’s soccer team (2-0-0) defeated the University of South Florida (1-1-0) in its first game at Stone Stadium of the 2025 season, 3-1. Sophomore Katie Shea Collins powered the Gamecocks to a win with a second half brace.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- South Carolina got on the board quickly, thanks to a goal by senior Kinley Brown in the ninth minute. Junior Amanda Patrick got the assist with a cross into traffic that Brown one-timed past the goalkeeper for her first goal of the season
- The Gamecocks held the lead going into halftime, but the Bulls leveled the score in the 53rd minute on a play inside the six-yard box
- Collins reclaimed the lead for the Garnet and Black in the 63rd minute. She got the rebound off of a blocked shot by sophomore Madden McDonald, who earned the assist
- South Carolina got some insurance in the 81st minute when Collins beat out the back line and goalkeeper on the run. Freshman Mackenzie Johnson got the assist with a pass from midfield, the first of her career
- McDonald’s assist was the first point of her career

- The Gamecocks remain at home to take on Ohio State on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Stadium.
