Gamecocks Look to Stay Undefeated on the Road Against Clemson
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 12 South Carolina women’s soccer team (4-0-0) travels to Historic Riggs Field to take on in-state rival Clemson (1-1-1) on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m. The Gamecocks are looking for a point in the Palmetto Series presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery. The match will be televised live on ACCNX.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gamecocks defeated Miami (OH) 2-0 at Stone Stadium on Sunday afternoon to stay perfect on the season. South Carolina got on the board in the 10th minute after a foul set up a direct kick. Senior Gracie Falla played the ball out wide to senior Micah Bryant, who delivered a perfect cross for sophomore Katie Shea Collins to head into the net for a South Carolina lead.
The second half started with a penalty kick opportunity in the 46th minute for the Gamecocks. Junior Cuyler Zulauf put the kick past the keeper to put South Carolina up 2-0. The goals were Zulauf’s first of the season and Collins’ third.
Sophomore Emma Kirlin checked in in front of the net for the first time in her Gamecock career, and graduate student Anna Young made her first appearance after missing the 2024 season due to injury. The South Carolina defense held Miami (OH) to zero shots throughout the match for the first time since 2023 (vs. Coastal Carolina).
For her efforts, Gracie Falla was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week (8/25).
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The match will be Clemson’s first game on its home field in the 2025 season. The Tigers enter thematch coming off of a 4-0 loss to Virginia Tech on the road. Clemson has also taken on Ohio State this season, and tied the Buckeyes 0-0, who South Carolina beat 1-0.
This is the 32nd time in program history these two rivals will face off. The Gamecocks and Tigers’ last meeting ended in a 1-1 tie (Sept. 5), and the past three matches have resulted in ties.
