Gamecocks Return Home to Host Georgia State for Senior Night

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 12 South Carolina women’s soccer team (4-0-1) returns home to host Georgia State (3-1-0) on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. for Senior Night. The game will be live on SECN+.

LAST TIME OUT

South Carolina took on the Clemson Tigers on the road Thursday night, finishing in a 0-0 draw. It was the first draw of the season for South Carolina, but the Gamecocks remain undefeated.

Mackenzie Johnson started things off quickly for South Carolina, taking a shot just 21 seconds into the game, coming just off target to the right. The remainder of the first half was an all-out possession battle between the two teams, with the Gamecocks getting off two more chances before heading into the locker room for the break.

South Carolina took four more chances in the second half, with one on target. Freshman Ava Tutas led the way in shots, with two, and senior keeper Tina Tsaousis had two saves on the night. The draw marked the fourth consecutive tie between the Gamecocks and Tigers.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

Sunday’s meeting is the third in program history between the two teams. South Carolina leads the series 2-0. The Gamecocks traveled to Atlanta last season and defeated the Panthers 6-0 (Sept. 15). Returner sophomore Katie Shea Collins scored a goal, and junior Amana Patrick and senior Gracie Falla each contributed assists to the win.

Georgia State enters the game coming off of a 4-0 win at home against Kennesaw State. Junior Hina Suzuki leads the team with four goals, three of which came in a hat trick in the Panthers’ season opener against Truett-McConnell.

The Panthers are undefeated at home this season, and their one loss came on the road against Furman (Aug. 17).
