South Carolina Sweeps ETSU in Noble’s First Win with the Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s volleyball team opened the Sarah Rumely Noble era with a commanding 3-0 sweep of ETSU on Friday night at the Carolina Volleyball Center. Victoria Hill and Nia Hall led the offense with 11 kills apiece while Victoria Harris anchored the backline with nine digs. Kimmie Thompson guided the attack with 18 assists.

“I’m so proud of our team performance,” coach Sarah Rumely Noble stated. “We ran a balanced office and our team fought really hard! I can’t thank Gamecock Nation enough for showing up tonight!”

1st Set: ETSU grabbed the first two points after a pair of Gamecock errors, but South Carolina quickly settled in with kills from Harris and Ava Leahy to even things at 3-3. The teams traded points through the early stretch before the Gamecocks created separation, taking a 15-12 lead into the media timeout. A 5-0 run fueled by back-to-back kills from Hall gave Carolina its largest lead of the set, and the Gamecocks closed it out 25-18 on a block by Hill and Leahy.

2nd Set: The beginning of the second set mirrored the first, with both teams battling point for point. Tied at 11, South Carolina broke through with a 6-0 run highlighted by three kills and a block from sophomore transfer Elise Marchal. She finished the set with seven kills to lead the Gamecocks to a 25-18 win and a 2-0 match lead.

3rd Set: South Carolina carried its momentum into the third, jumping ahead to 10-5 behind kills from four different players and five Buccaneer errors. The Gamecocks maintained control throughout, keeping a cushion of at least three points for the majority of the set.
