Harris Crowned Co-Champion, No. 21 Gamecocks Finish Second at Gopher Invitational

Redshirt junior All-American recorded his fourth career victory this week shooting 205 (-8) at Windsong Farm to lead South Carolina
MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. – No. 21 South Carolina finished second at the Gopher Invitational on Monday to open the 2025-26 season. Redshirt junior All-American Frankie Harris earned his fourth career victory at Windsong Fram Golf Club as he was co-medalist with Texas A&M’s Aaron Pounds and Iowa State’s Paul Beauvy at 8-under par.
Harris, who entered the season with the lowest career scoring average in program history, fired three-straight red numbers over the last two day with scores of 69-67-69 for a 54-hole total of 205. He T-4th in the field alongside teammate senior Zach Adams with 12 birdies. Harris’ scorecards were clean with just four bogeys the entire tournament. The Boca Raton, Fla. native had just one bogey over his final 26 holes.
It marks his fourth career win in three seasons at South Carolina, which ties him for the second most career wins in program history alongside All-Americans Ryan Hall, Keenan Huskey, Carl Paulson and Matt NeSmith. Harris now has 10 career top-five finishes, which ties him with Hall for the sixth-most career top-fives in program history.
Adams had a nice climb up the leaderboard in the final round today, shooting even par 71 to jump 14 spots and secure a T-20th finish at 4-over for the tournament. The Charleston, S.C. native now has nine career top-20s at South Carolina.
Sophomore Marek Fleming, who is fresh off a nice summer that featured a U.S. Amateur appearance, also T-20th at 4-over with scores of 73-69-75. His round two 69 (-2) featured three birdies and an eagle at the par-5 12th hole. The Tomball, Texas native was one of just six players in the 85-man field to make an eagle in the tournament.
No. 20 Texas A&M was the team champions this week with a 54-hole total of 852 (E). Carolina shot 859 (+7) as a team highlighted by a round two 278 (-6) that pushed it eight spots up the leaderboard into third heading into today’s final round.
A trio of Gamecocks competed as individuals at the Minnesota Golf Classic on Saturday and Sunday with all three players finishing inside the top-20. Freshman August Petersson led the way earning runner-up medalist honors. He shot 208 (-8) and tied the school 18-hole scoring record in the opening round with a bogey free 63 (-9) at Pioneer Creek Golf Course. Junior Bo Carpenter finished T-9th at 1-under and freshman Talan Harrison finished T-17th at 3-over.
The Gamecocks will be off until the end of the month when they return to action Sept. 29-30 hosting the Bryan Bros Collegiate at Solina Golf Club.
