Gamecocks Drop Match to UCF
COLUMBIA, S.C – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (7-3-1, 1-1-1) fell to UCF (3-5-1, 1-2-0) 2-0 in a Sun Belt Conference match Saturday night at Stone Stadium.
The Gamecocks had nine shots with five on goal, while the Knights matched the five shots on goal with 15 total shots. UCF led corner kicks 5-to-2.
Carolina brought a threat first with back-to-back shots on frame in the 15th minute by Tyler Trimnal and Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez, saved by Juanvi Munoz. UCF’s first chance came off the foot of Clarence Awoudor, but was met by a save from Gamecock keeper Filip Versterre in the 20th minute.
UCF led the rest of the half with three shots and two corner kicks but did not find the net.
The Gamecocks started the second half with some offensive momentum but couldn’t follow through. The Knights got on the board first with a goal off the foot of Mateus Dejesus, assisted by Awoudor in the 61st minute.
Trimnal and Velazquez-Lopez continued to lead the attack, with four shots on goal; three saved by Munoz and one shot missing just left. Carolina was given an opportunity with a corner kick in the 78th minute after a shot by Ethan Ballek, but came up short.
UCF sealed the win with a goal from Malick Thiaw, assisted by Awoudor off of a save in the 80th minute.

The Gamecocks remain at home for their next match on Friday, Oct. 10th for Senior Night against Old Dominion at 7 p.m.
