South Carolina Dominates Texas to Remain Perfect in Conference Play

COLUMBIA, SC – The No. 10 South Carolina women’s soccer team (10-1-4, 4-0-3) defeated Texas (3-10-1, 1-6-0) 5-1 on Thursday night to remain undefeated in conference play. Four different Gamecocks found the back of the net on five goals, marking a new season high for the Gamecocks in both.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Katie Shea Collins tied her career high of six points with two goals and two assists. Collins’ involvement in four goals was a career high, and she continues to lead the team in goals with 10.
  • South Carolina got on the board in the 24th minute with a goal from junior Cuyler Zulauf. Collins dribbled the ball to the right end line and found Zulauf with a cross to the 6-yard box. Zulauf slotted the ball just past the Longhorn keeper and into the bottom right corner. The goal was Zulaf’s fourth of the season.
  • Collins got on the scoresheet next, increasing the lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute. She ran onto the ball down the right of the field and took a shot from inside the box that sailed over the keeper’s head and into the top left corner. The goal was her ninth of the season.
  • Grad Anna Young scored her first career goal in the 41st minute to put the Gamecocks up 3-0 before the half. Freshman Alex Pino took a corner kick and played the ball into Collins on the touchline at the 18-yard box. Collins passed the ball to Young at the top of the box, who sent her shot below the keeper’s dive in the middle of the net.
  • South Carolina kept the momentum rolling coming out of the locker room and scored its fourth goal in the 66th minute. Pino took a free kick on the left side of the field and sent the ball to junior Reagan Shubach, who tapped it in from the goal line. The goal was Shubach’s first of the year.
  • Pino’s two assists on the night were a career high in assists and points.
  • Texas got one goal back in the 67th minute on a header from inside the 6-yard box to make the score 4-1.
  • Collins got her second goal of the match in the 77th minute on an assist from freshman Mackenzie Johnson. Johnson had the ball in the center of Texas’s half and passed it to Collins, who connected with the pass at the 6-yard line and one-timed it into the net.
