Gamecocks Drop Road Match to Kentucky
LEXINGTON, KY – South Carolina women’s soccer (10-2-4, 4-1-3) suffered its first loss in conference play this season, falling 3-2 on the road against Kentucky (10-4-2, 4-2-2).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats were quick to take chances, converting in the eighth minute. The goal was ultimately overturned on an offside call
- Just one minute later, Kentucky got back on the board after a shot by Kendall Campbell made it past Gamecock keeper Christina Tsaousis to the top right of the net
- The Gamecocks struggled for possession, and eventually found themselves down 2-0 when Thalia Morisi of Kentucky connected off a cross in the 13th minute
- South Carolina’s first shot of the night came from senior center back Gracie Falla, ending up wide to the right
- After a foul was called in the box on Gamecock Micah Bryant in the 32nd minute, the Wildcats made things 3-0 following a successful penalty kick
- With just five minutes remaining in the first half, rookie Mackenzie Johnson got the Gamecocks on the board after sneaking a shot past Wildcat keeper Megan Holland, assisted by Jyvanna Harris. The goal was Johnson’s sixth this season
- Despite winning possession battles coming into the second half, South Carolina remained shotless until a foul called on Kentucky’s Gabrielle Poretto set the Gamecocks up for their own penalty kick in the 78th minute. Junior Cuyler Zulauf stepped up and converted, making her 3-for-3 on the season so far to get within one (3-2)
- Falla took one last chance for the Gamecocks in the 85th minute, but was unable to find the equalizer

The Gamecocks will return home to face Texas A&M on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 6:00 p.m. South Carolina will retire the jersey of Savannah McCaskill in a pregame ceremony.
