McLean Earns SEC Freshman of the Week Honors

Melbourne, Australia native finished T-21st in her college debut over the weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Molly McLean was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday with its weekly golf awards. It is the first Player of the Week honor for the talented first-year player from Melbourne, Australia.

She made her collegiate debut this past weekend finishing T-21st in helping the No. 16 Gamecocks to a fifth-place finish at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 17-19). McLean shot 217 (+7) impressing in her first college round with a 68 (-2) that featured five birdies.

McLean made nine birdies total, T-11th in the 81-player field. She also T-11th in par-4 scoring average (4.10, +3).

South Carolina wraps-up the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at the Landfall Tradition. First round action gets underway way on Friday morning at Country Club of Landfall.
