Annual Lettermen's Association Tournament a Success!
Former South Carolina student-athletes from a wide variety of sports hit the links on Friday at the Fort Jackson Golf Club for the annual University of South Carolina Association of Lettermen golf tournament. There were 50 foursomes competing and helping to raise funds for the Lettermen’s Association, and a portion of the proceeds are also being donated to Camp Cole in Eastover, S.C.
“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it allows us to give more back to the student-athletes and to our Association,” said Adam Ribock, who is President of the Lettermen’s Association and was a manager for the men’s basketball team from 2006 through 2009. “It’s all about giving back. This year, we’re giving some of our proceeds to Camp Cole, which is a local organization that allows kids with disabilities and illnesses such as cancer to go to camp and do things they ordinarily wouldn’t have the chance to do. This is the second year in a row we’ve worked with Camp Cole.
“We’re all about giving back. It’s for the student-athletes, and when we can, we want to give back to the community as well.”
Great weather for the sold out tournament meant a great turnout for the annual event.
“I think it’s important that you have community and support one another.”
For the former Gamecocks, the opportunity to come back for a fun day of competing and mingling are some of the draws.
“I’m a lifelong Gamecock fan, and I’m very proud to be associated with the organization,” said former golfer Whitney Simons, who graduated in 2008, went into the U.S. Army, and is now a dentist in Lexington, S.C. “I think it’s important that you have community and support one another. I’ve tried to get more involved with the Lettermen’s Association since I came back.”
