Gamecocks Drop Road Contest to Eagles
STATESBORO, Ga. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (7-8-2, 1-5-2) fell to Georgia Southern (12-3-1, 5-3) 3-1 on the road Friday night (Oct. 31) in Sun Belt play.
The Eagles scored early in the first and second halves, tallying goals in the ninth and 55th minutes.
South Carolina cut into the lead in the 78th minute when Ethan Ballek followed his own shot that deflected off the GSU keeper. After the initial shot was saved, the ball deflected off Ballek and found its way into the back of the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The momentum was short lived as the Eagles tallied their third goal of the night in the 81st minute.
On the night, South Carolina out-shot GSU 20-to-15, while the Eagles held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. They also led 5-3 in corner kicks.
South Carolina returns home to close out the regular season hosting No. 19 West Virginia Tuesday at 7 p.m.
