Three Moving On After Day One of ITA Sectionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team wrapped up day one of the ITA East Sectional Championship with one singles player and one doubles pair advancing to the next round.

In singles play, Paul Barbier Gazeu advanced to the Round of 16 after a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win over NC State’s Charlie Camus. Sean Daryabeigi pushed his match to three sets but ultimately fell to Wake Forest’s Andrew Delgado, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Lucas da Silva rounded out the singles lineup for the Gamecocks, dropping his opening match to Columbia’s Sachin Palta, 6-2, 6-1.

The Gamecocks found success in doubles, as Max Stenzer and Daryabeigi battled back from a first-set loss to defeat Yale’s Eric Li and Ethan Chung, 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4), advancing to the quarterfinals. The duo of Barbier Gazeu and da Silva came up short in their Round of 16 match, falling 7-5, 6-4 to Penn’s Vojtech Vales and Shaurya Bharadwaj.

South Carolina continues play tomorrow with Barbier Gazeu in the singles Round of 16 and Stenzer and Daryabeigi returning to the court in the doubles quarterfinals.
