Three Gamecocks Qualify for NCAAs on Final Day of ITA Sectionals
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA East Sectional Championships on a high note Sunday, with three Gamecocks earning their first-ever qualifications for the NCAA Individual Championships.
In singles, Paul Barbier Gazeu punched his ticket with a gritty 7-5, 6-3 win over eighth seeded Henrik Bladelius from Clemson in the 5–8 playoff semifinals, capping off a strong weekend of competition. Lucas da Silva also finished play on a high note, defeating Harvard’s Nathan Blokhin 6-4, 6-2 in consolation play to claim his second consolation victory of the tournament.
On the doubles side, Sean Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer sealed their NCAA spots with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory over North Carolina’s Anthony Wright and Nicholas Mangiapane in the third-place playoff.
The qualifying marks a major milestone for the Gamecock trio, who will each make their NCAA Individual Championship debut later this month.
