Latson Named USBWA Player of the Week

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball senior Ta’Niya Latson was among the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Players of the Week for her efficient effort in a pair of Gamecock wins last week.

Latson averaged 24.0 points on 77.3 percent shooting to lead the Gamecocks in both categories for the week. She was second on the team with 4.5 assists per game as well, which added another 10.5 points per game to South Carolina’s high-powered offense. In the week’s first game, Latson netted 10 of her 24 points in the opening quarter and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, including a pair of 3s, to amass 20 points at halftime. On Sunday against Queens, Latson carried a perfect game (7-of-7) through the third quarter. She also handed out five assists and swiped three steals – both her Gamecock career highs.

The other selections for the week were Maggie Doogan (Richmond), Azzi Fudd (UConn), Ava Heiden (Iowa) and Clara Strack (Kentucky).

No. 2/2 South Carolina is in Las Vegas this week at the Players Era Championship. The Gamecocks play Duke on Wed, Nov. 26, at 4:30 p.m. ET and face either #3/3 UCLA or #4/4 Texas on Thursday. Both games are at Michelob Ultra Arena and air on TruTV.
