Free concessions return to Colonial Life Arena tomorrow for the remainder of the non-conference schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (7-4) returns to Colonial Life Arena on Monday afternoon to face South Carolina State (1-12) in the team’s final game before a brief Christmas break. Tip is set for 4 p.m. (ET) with arena doors opening 1 hour prior to the start of the non-conference matchup.

Cade Crenshaw (pxp) and John Williams (analyst) will be on the call for the SEC Network+ broadcast.

Carolina is 23-0 all-time against the Bulldogs, including a pair of wins coming under head coach Lamont Paris. Seven games have been decided by single-digits in the series with the Gamecocks’ average margin of victory in the 23 wins at 17.3 points. A notable game in the series was an 82-65 Gamecock win on Nov. 29, 2002 in what was just the second game ever at Colonial Life Arena. Chuck Eidson had 25 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, recording the first triple-double in program history.

South Carolina State is led by fourth-year head coach Erik Martin, who was a longtime assistant under Hall of Famer Bob Huggins at Kansas State and West Virginia. The Bulldogs recently picked up their first win of the season, a 68-54 home victory over Brewton-Parker on Dec. 19. Owen Bronston Jr. is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 12.4 points per game. Jayden Johnson averages 9.2 points and leads the team averaging 3.5 assists per contest. Christopher Parker averages 9.0 points and leads the team averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. The Bulldogs average just 65.6 points per game while shooting 39.2% (299-of-763) from the floor as a team. They’ve given up 85.8 points per game while allowing their opponents to shoot 48.6% (372-of-766) from the field.

1,000 – Stute scored his 1,000th career point with a 3-pointer early in the game vs. Radford (Nov. 18)
48 – Johnson scored his 1,000th career point at South Carolina with his final bucket in a recent victory over The Citadel (Dec. 13). He became the 48th  Gamecock to join the 1,000-career point club (first since former All-SEC guard AJ Lawson from 2018-21).

Johnson became the 25th different player for South Carolina since the 2004-05 season to record a 30-point game when he had a career-high 33 points vs. Southern Miss on Nov. 9. Johnson, Brenton Williams (2014) and Devan Downey (2009) are the only Gamecocks to have a 30-point game with seven or more made 3s.
44 – Johnson became the 44th player in the SEC to hit seven or more 3s in a game over the last five seasons. Stute is also on that list, making seven 3s twice while at Vanderbilt in games at Temple (11/15/22) and at Texas A&M (1/28/23).
94 – Carolina has hit 94 3s (8.5 3FG per game) in the first 11 games of the season with a combined 57  different players hitting a shot from behind the arc in the 11 ball games (average of 5.2 different players hitting a 3FG per game).
30 – The Gamecocks’ 31-point win over Stetson (Dec. 6) was the team’s first victory by 30 or more points since defeating Florida A&M, 94-62, on Dec. 30, 2023 in the non-conference finale.
10 – Paris has been a part of 10 NCAA Tournament teams as a Division I assistant/head coach with his first appearance at South Carolina coming last season.

The previous top-five road win was a 72-66 win at No. 3 Kentucky on March 2, 1997. The 59 points scored by Tennessee were a season-low for the Vols. It was also the first home loss of the season for UT, snapping a 13-game home winning streak by the Vols at Thompson-Boling Arena.
