Gamecocks Set for Top-5 Matchup

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 5 South Carolina Equestrian team (7-4, 2-3) welcomes a new No. 1 to town, hosting Georgia (7-2, 3-1) on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gamecocks defeated then-No. 1 Auburn at home, 10-9, breaking the Tigers’ five-meet win streak that dated back to the fall slate. Auburn took an early lead after going 3-2 in Fences, but the Gamecocks responded, sweeping Horsemanship 5-0 for the first time against the Tigers in program history. Alexis Potts picked up her third MOP of the season after scoring a 75.75 to win her point.

South Carolina took a 7-3 lead into halftime and built on its lead when it came back out for Flat. The Gamecocks edged out the Tigers 3-2, evening out the Jumping set scores 5-5, and taking a 10-5 overall lead. Amira Kettaneh earned a 91.5 for her ride, scored a point, and received her fourth MOP honors of the season. The Tigers attempted to come back, but South Carolina’s Emily Patton tied Auburn’s Michelle Fumagalli 70.5 to void the point and clinch the Gamecock win.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Saturday’s meeting with No. 1 Georgia will be the 62nd in program history. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 43-18. The two teams met during the fall portion of the season, where Georgia defeated South Carolina 13-6 in Athens. Kettaneh earned MOP honors for her scores in both Fences and Flat, while Potts picked up a MOP for Horsemanship.

The Bulldogs enter Saturday’s meet 7-2 after defeating then-No. 3 Texas A&M 12-7 at home. Georgia is 3-2 on the road, while the Gamecocks are looking to remain undefeated at home.
