Meechie Johnson led all scorers with 22 points, his ninth 20-point game of the season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Alex Condon had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Rueben Chinyelu also notched a double-double as No. 12/11 Florida (20-6, 11-2 SEC) defeated South Carolina, 76-62, on Tuesday night at the O’Connell Center.
Chinyelu finished with 15 points and 17 boards for his 16th double-double of the season. The Gators won their sixth consecutive game and improved to 11-1 since losing at Missouri to open Southeastern Conference play back on Jan. 3.
The Gamecocks (11-14, 2-11 SEC) got within six late in the first half but a quick burst got the Gators’ lead to double-digits, 39-29, at the break. Carolina trimmed the deficit to nine, 46-37, at the first media timeout of half two with 15:52 to go after a Kobe Knox bucket. From there, Florida pushed its advantage to 16 and led by double-digits the rest of the way, improving to 12-1 at home this season.
Thomas Haugh added 10 points for the Gators.
Meechie Johnson, who had 10 points in the first meeting between the two SEC foes back in January, led the Gamecocks with 22 points in 30 minutes.

- The Gators, the top rebounding team in the nation, used their size advantage holding a 47-30 rebounding edge that led to 27 second chance points.
NOTABLES
- Redshirt senior guard Meechie Johnson finished with a game-high 22 points, his 9th game this season with 20 or more (7th in SEC play). He was a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line and added a team-high three steals.
- The Cleveland, Ohio native now has 12 consecutive games in double-figures after tonight. He’s scored 10 or more a team-leading 20 times this season.
- He also now has 23 games in college with 20 or more points, all while wearing Garnet and Black.
- Junior forward Elijah Strong was the only other Gamecock in double-figures with 10 points (5-for-8 FGs) in 16 minutes of action.
- Senior guard Mike Sharavjamts led the team with six boards in 27 minutes.
