Beach Volleyball Hosts Four Teams for Wheeler Beach Bash

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina beach volleyball returns home to the host Wheeler Beach Bash Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28. The Gamecocks will welcome Chattanooga, Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, Coastal Carolina and Austin Peay for the weekend tournament.

In its last competition, South Carolina went 2-2 after splitting results at the Dolphin Duals in Jacksonville, Fla. To kick off the season, the Gamecocks defeated No. 17 North Florida, 3-2. The duo of Evie Ziffer and Julia Waugh led the way for the Gamecocks, securing three wins over the weekend.

This spring, attendance at home matches at Wheeler Beach is again free and open to the general public. Please continue to follow the athletics department’s clear bag policy. Fan entrance is permitted only on the north side of the facility through the main gate, and only participating teams and game-day personnel are permitted on the sand surface.

On Friday, fan parking will be street metered, and a shuttle will run from Key Road from 8 am-9 pm. On Saturday, fan parking will be in the Athletics Village Garage for $10 and metered street parking.

Fans can also enjoy food and beverages this weekend from local food trucks: Carolina Cooking (11 a.m. -5:30 p.m. on Friday), Simply Blended Brew (8 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturday) and Steele’s Grill (11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday). Aramark will also be selling alcohol to attendees who are 21+ years of age (Friday: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. & Saturday: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.). As a reminder to fans wishing to purchase alcohol, you must have a valid horizontal ID. Our concessions provider will not be able to accept any vertical IDs.

AUSTIN PEAY (3-1) 

All-time Series: South Carolina leads 1-0  

Last Meeting: The Gamecocks won, 4-1 (3/1/25) 

Series Note: South Carolina earned a decisive victory in the lone meeting between the two programs and will look to replicate that success against a Govs team off to a strong start. 

 TEXAS A&M CORPUS CHRISTI (1-3) 

All-time Series: The series is tied 1-1  

Last Meeting: Texas A&M Corpus Christi won, 3-2 (4/12/25) 

Series Note: This will be the third matchup between the two programs. The Islanders enter the weekend looking to bounce back after a slow start to the season. 

 CHATTANOOGA (0-0) 

All-time Series: South Carolina leads 1-0 

Last Meeting: Gamecocks won, 4-1 (3/2/24) 

Series Note: Chattanooga opens its season at the event, making this an early test for both teams in what will be their first meeting. 

 COASTAL CAROLINA (1-3) 

All-time Series: South Carolina leads 13-3 

Last Meeting: Coastal Carolina won, 3-2 (4/19/25) 

Series Note: The Gamecocks have won both previous meetings, including a narrow 3-2 victory last season, signaling a potentially competitive rematch.
