2020 (SENIOR)

  • Moved to a new role in the fall, starting as the team’s libero and shifting into a position as a defensive specialist in her five total matches played.
  • Recorded two aces, two assists and nine digs at Georgia (10/18).

2019 (JUNIOR)

  • Set career highs in every major statistical category, all while appearing in all 114 of the team’s sets for the season.
  • With 209 kills and 228 digs, she is just the fourth different player in the last 10 years to crack 200 in both categories in a single season.
  • Recorded more kills as a junior (209) than her first two seasons with the team combined. Also had the same jump in service aces (24 as a junior, 21 the first two seasons).
  • Was the driving force in the team’s win over Cleveland State, posting 16 kills and 16 digs along with two aces in the five-set thriller (8/31).
  • Helped the team come back to defeat Kansas, recording 14 kills, 14 digs and five assists over four sets (9/7).
  • Made the UCF Challenge all-tournament team, finishing with 26 kills and 25 digs over the 10 sets played.
  • Matched her career high with 16 kills and added 13 digs and four assists in the team’s win over Maryland (9/20).
  • Led the team with 15 kills along with a season-high 17 digs in a win at Arkansas (10/13).
  • For the season, she led the team in digs five times and aces five times.

2018 (SOPHOMORE)

  • Blossomed into a greater role with the team in year two, playing in all 30 matches and 104 total sets.
  • Finished fifth on the team with 135 kills, up from her total of 42 as a freshman.
  • Led the team in both serves received (584) and service reception percentage (.942).
  • Popped up 14 digs and added eight kills vs. Liberty (8/31).
  • Recorded her first career double-double at Alabama, getting 10 kills with 12 digs in the sweep (9/28). 
  • Set a career high with 14 kills against No. 11 Florida, also hitting .387 (10/12). 
  • Led the team with 12 digs at Tennessee (10/24). 
  • Dug 20 balls and added eight kills at Texas A&M (11/9).

2017 (FRESHMAN)

  • Played in all but one of the team’s matches, making 14 starts as a left side
  • Moved into a back-row role as the season went on, and finished second on the team with 332 serve receptions
  • Had 11 aces in 291 serve attempts
  • Popped up 11 digs and added four block assists and three kills in the upset win over Duke (9/2)
  • Her nine kills against Georgia Southern set a new personal best and led the team (9/15)
  • Had eight digs and four kills vs. Tennessee (10/1)
  • Her three aces against Arkansas were a personal best (11/12)

HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB

  • High School All-American.
  • Finished second in kills and third in aces in the Arizona Divison II ranks for 2015-16.
  • Named to the PrepVolleyball “Senior Aces” Top 150 high school players list.
  • Made the AIA All-Division 1st team.

PERSONAL

  • Daughter of Jason and Julie Vastine, and has one brother — Jacob. Her mother played volleyball at Fresno State and coached Jess’ high school team.
  • Plans to major in exercise science, with a goal of becoming a physical therapist.
