David Fox
David Fox joined the University of South Carolina communications staff in July 2022. In his current role with the Gamecocks, he is the primary contact for track & field/cross country as well as serves in a secondary role with Carolina Football.
In his role with football, Fox serves as the liaison between student-athletes and the media, assisting in the preparation of student-athletes for weekly press conferences as well as national media interviews. He also assists with press box management, sideline management and is the on-field representative with the TV talent/sideline reporters for Head Coach Shane Beamer as well as the players. Fox aids the communications staff in writing weekly game notes and is heavily involved in spring football, including the annual NFL Pro Day.
His primary duties with track & field/cross country include writing recaps, writing press releases and pitching story ideas to local media as well as national media for postseason events. Fox also maintains season statistics for both programs and continuously updates the program record books, while also managing all day-to-day content and messaging on all social media platforms. During his time running the social media account, Gamecock Track & Field has seen tremendous growth in followers, rising 196% from Dec. 2022 – June 2024. Engagements on the account also grew 585% during that time frame. He works diligently with the coaching staff and the creative media in coming up with creative ways to showcase the program, while staying competitive in a social media driven landscape.
Fox also assists in the department’s student-assistant program, helping train up and coming students in both social media and their writing skills.
Prior to his arrival in Columbia, Fox spent three seasons as the Assistant Director of Media Relations at East Tennessee State University (2019-22) where he served as the primary contact for football, softball, men’s tennis and men’s golf. He oversaw all publications for the 2021 Southern Conference Champion football team and worked closely with both men’s tennis and men’s golf that won the SoCon Championship in each of his three seasons. He also served as the primary oversight for the department’s graduate assistants.
He has also enjoyed stops at Mercer University (men’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball) from 2017-19, and Keiser University (2016-17) where he worked 11 varsity sports. During his time at Mercer, he covered two SoCon championships in both men’s soccer and women’s basketball.
Fox graduated from Western Carolina University in 2014, earning his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. He later earned his Master of Business Administration from Liberty University in 2016. He and his wife, Anne, reside in Lexington with their children Elly and Houston and their dog Cleo.
