Erin Abbey

Erin Abbey was promoted to Executive Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, Risk and Regulatory Affairs on August 26, 2026.

In her role, Abbey provides high-level oversight and strategic vision for the Office of Compliance Services. She leads the department while overseeing risk management and regulatory affairs and assisting with NCAA legal matters. Abbey also addresses department-wide issues impacting college athletics in today’s regulatory environment, advancing operational effectiveness, institutional alignment and strong compliance practices.

Abbey will continue to serve as the compliance liaison for the football and men’s and women’s basketball programs, while also assisting other sport programs. She also serves as the sport administrator for the volleyball program.

Abbey came to South Carolina as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance on Dec. 9, 2021 and was promoted to Associate AD in March of 2024 and to Senior Associate AD in November of 2024.

Before coming to South Carolina, Abbey was at the University of Notre Dame, where she had most recently served as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. Abbey was responsible for multiple aspects of the compliance office operations and served as a sport administrator for the women’s rowing and cheerleading programs.

Prior to her role at Notre Dame, Abbey served in compliance roles at the University of Virginia, University of Oklahoma, and the University of Texas at Austin.

Abbey is a 2003 graduate of Huntington University, where she was a member of the Women’s Soccer and Women’s Track & Field programs, earning All-America honors in track and field. She received her master’s degree from Ball State University in 2007 and a juris doctorate degree from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2010.

Abbey was admitted to practice law in South Carolina in May 2026 and is an active member of the South Carolina Bar.
