Scott Salwasser

Scott Salwasser joined the Gamecock staff as an assistant strength & conditioning coach in January 2020 after spending the 2019 season as the head football strength & conditioning coach at Texas State, where he oversaw the comprehensive preparation program that utilizes speed, power, strength and conditioning to improve performance and minimize injury risk while enhancing football skills.
 
Prior to his stint in San Marcos, Salwasser spent three years (2016-18) as the director of speed and power for football at Texas Tech, where he was in charge of linear and multi-directional speed development, plyometrics, ballistics, and position specific movement.
 
Salwasser began his coaching career at Sacramento State (2004-09), working first as a graduate assistant for two years, then as an assistant strength & conditioning coach for three years. While a G.A. at Sac State, he competed nationally in Olympic weightlifting. In July of 2009 he began a two-year stint as an assistant strength & conditioning coach at Louisiana, where he worked with football, basketball and Olympic sports. He joined the staff at Cal in 2012 and worked for four seasons with the Bears’ football program as an assistant strength & conditioning coach, where his duties included leading the speed and power development program, assessing and correcting individual weaknesses, and implementing force plate technology.. He also served as a strength and conditioning intern for the Oakland Raiders in 2003 and had another stint with the team in 2011.
 
Salwasser played football as an undergraduate at UC Davis, earning a bachelor’s degree in English, arts and communication in 2002. He added a master’s degree in kinesiology from Sacramento State in 2006. He holds a certification in strength & conditioning from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), along with other accreditations, and serves as a guest blogger and writer for several publications. He has been a presenter at national and regional conferences in the field. He has worked with numerous NFL players during their collegiate careers, including NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and NFL All-Pro and former No. 1 pick Jared Goff.

Born Sept. 11, 1980 in Oakland, Calif., and a graduate of Bishop O’Dowd High School, he has two daughters, Stella and Charlotte.
