Recap | Box Score

On South Carolina starter Sam Dyson’s one bad inning
“I think you have to give credit to Alabama, they found a way to get some hits in that inning. I think it was a six-hit inning and he only gave up eight in the game and a couple of them weren’t hit that well but they look like line drives in the book. Sometimes you don’t get a ball down enough or finds enough barrel it drops in. But he was really good other than that inning and Morgan was really good. We got the two runs early and he kind of stuffed us in the middle innings. But (Christian) Walker got us in the game a little bit but it was a well-pitched game by both guys with the exception of one inning each.”

On Alabama starter Adam Morgan’s performance
“He was able to get his fastball on the outer half. He could sneak one in there and he’d dump a breaking ball. He’d throw breaking balls in the zone and out of the zone. Sometimes that’s better than being or throwing around the plate too much. But he was good and did a nice job.”

On the chance of a comeback
“I said that we have a bunch of frames on the board if we could continue to pitch, which we did. But Morgan stopped us and that was the difference in the game. We had a couple of chances at the end to make it interesting there. But Jake Smith comes in and does a nice job to finish the game, coming in from third base.”

On how much you learn about your team on Sunday games
“We’re going to try to win it that’s for sure. But I think I know my team at this point, we’re (42) games into it. We know who we are and what we got. We’re going to battle; we’re going to scrap and claw and get in a position to win. We’re playing a good club. They did a nice job early in the season and hit a bump in the middle of the season but they won five games this past week and now six of their last seven. They can swing it a little and they’ll be ready to go tomorrow too.”
