COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s women’s tennis team (2-3) will return to the courts Wednesday to host College Charleston (3-3) at 2 p.m.

The Gamecocks will be playing the Cougars for the 15th time in the past 17 seasons Wednesday and hold an 18-2 edge in the all-time series dating back to the 1970s. All 18 of those victories have come consecutively and South Carolina has not surrendered more than one point to the Cougars during the streak.

South Carolina enters the match following its third 4-3 loss of the season, the most recent being against No. 13 Clemson on Sunday. The Gamecocks were swept in doubles and won at positions two, five and six in singles. On court two, Dijana Stojic defeated the highest ranked player in her career by upending No. 65 Keri Wong in three sets to improve to 4-1 this spring.

Carolina will be without one of its starters in singles and doubles after Josefin Andersson ruptured her right Achilles tendon in the second set of her match against Clemson. Andersson underwent surgery this morning and will miss the remainder of the season. Freshman Adriana Pereira will enter the singles lineup at No. 6 while Miljana Jocic moves up to five and Madeleine Saari-Byström to four.

College of Charleston comes into the match riding a three-match unbeaten streak after losing its first three of the season. The Cougars defeated Stetson and Boston 5-2 while beating North Florida 6-1 in their last match. CofC is coming off a 24-5 season in which it won the Southern Conference and reached the NCAA Tournament.

After College of Charleston, the Gamecocks will take on USF a week later at home at 2 p.m.
