South Carolina Head Coach Ray Tanner
On playing more small ball
“I felt like with the conditions and the way they were, runs were at a premium. The ball wasn’t carrying and we haven’t hit home runs anyway. Just trying to take advantage of getting some runs when we could. We’ve been doing it a bit with forcing actions. We got lucky with a couple of those. Morales bunts the ball over the pitcher’s head and we get a run. Our pitching was good. We only allowed three runs. We used a bunch of guys which is what we wanted to do and it worked out pretty well for us.”
On pitching staff
“Our pitching has been good but we’ll find out here in the next 10 weekends how good it is. The SEC has good hitters in the league but our pitchers have been doing pretty good. It seems like we’ve given up less runs than years in the past. We’ve been able to stop some teams. Davidson has come in here with an 11-5 record they went down to Auburn and lost by one run. They done a good job and they swung the bats well. I think they were hitting about .325 as a team but we struck out 15 of their guys. I thought we did a pretty good job.”
