South Carolina head coach Ray Tanner
On the pitching staff’s 18 strikeouts
“It doesn’t happen very often but other than the one game (vs. Clemson); our pitching staff has done a nice job for us and kept us in the position to win. Jimmy Revan got behind a little bit. Two of the runs were via the walk which is discouraging. Matt Price is throwing the ball with a little more force and we decided to put him in (there) in the middle of the game. I wanted to save him for late, but not knowing what was going to happen weather-wise, we didn’t know how long it would last. He threw the ball very well.”
On (Whit) Merrifield’s record
“I’m happy for him. He’s the kind of guy that you would like to see break a record. He shows up and plays for you every day. He plays hard and he’s a team guy. I think the hit that he broke the record was fitting, it was the other way. Good hitters will do that and it was an RBI. He’s done a great job and I’m happy to see him reach that milestone.”
On Brady Thomas and his game
“Brady (Thomas) has impressed me from a team standpoint. I like his approach; he’s very aggressive and very interested in winning. He gives you a quality at bat and I like his presence right now. As a coach, I think he’s one of those guys you can win with and that’s why I put him in today and he helped us some. I’m happy about the progress he’s made as well.”
