The University of South Carolina’s women’s tennis team took one of the three double tournaments today at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, South Carolina.

Freshman Danielle Wiggins and Sophomore Ayako Suzuki won three straight matches earlier today to win the Flight Three Doubles tournament. Wiggins and Suzuki defeated Wisconsin’s Lexi Goldin and Teresa Gonzaga 8-2 in the championship match of flight three. In the earlier matches, the pair defeated Welch and Moore of Furman 8-5 then rolled past Middle Tennessee State’s twosome of Venter and West 8-1.

The tandem of Catherine Brown and Magda Wojdylo posted the second highest finish for the Lady Gamecocks in the tournament. Brown and Wojdylo defeated Clemson’s Anna Dolinska and Ioana Paun 8-6 in the opening round of Flight Two. Brown and Wojdylo fell in the next match to Vanderbilt’s Kori Scott and Ashley Schellhas 8-6. The pair came back to win their last match of the evening against Iowa’s Hoch and Glynn to finish in third place of Flight Two.

In flight one doubles, the 27th ranked duo of Jodi Kenoyer and Kathy Boyanovich were defeated in the first round by Furman’s Marti Morris, and Natalie The 8-5. The duo went on to lose their final two constellation matches versus teams from Iowa and Furman 9-7, and 8-6.

Sophomore Audrey George teamed with Furman’s Shellie Cochran in the flight three doubles. The two lost both matches by scores of 8-6 to Wisconsin, and 8-6 to Middle Tennessee State. They posted a 4th place finish in flight three doubles.

The tournament was not originally slated to play all three rounds of doubles today. Tournament officials were forced to make adjustments due to inclement weather. The tournament continues tomorrow with two round of singles play. The first round will begin at 9am while the second round action will follow around 1pm.
