COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Women’s Tennis team opens their 2002 Fall Schedule this weekend in Greenville, S.C. at the Furman Fall Classic.

This tournament will be the first of many tournaments this fall for the Lady Gamecocks.

South Carolina, who finished the 2001-02 campaign at 17-8, made their eighth consecutive post-season appearance, the longest by a women’s sports at the University of South Carolina. This year, seniors Jodi Kenoyer and Kathy Boyanovich look to lead Carolina to a ninth-consecutive post-season appearance.

Boyanovich is the only Gamecock that is ranked in singles (63rd) and she is ranked with teammate Kenoyer in doubles at 27th in the nation.

Boyanovich, in singles play, recorded a 17-7 finish a year ago and was ranked 95th in the nation. Kenoyer was 28-9 overall in doubles play and was ranked 47th nationally with Lynn-Yin Tan last year.

South Carolina will face players from Clemson, Iowa, Middle Tennessee State, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin in the tournament. The tournament will feature eight players in single competition that are preseason ranked in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings Top 100. The doubles competition isn’t any easier as there are five players competing that are listed in the top 50. Vanderbilt’s Aleke Tsoubanos and Sarah Riske are ranked as the No. 1 Doubles tandem in the nation. The Furman Fall Classic runs from Friday, September 27th through Sunday September 29th.
