ANN ARBOR, Mich.Ana Marija Zubori and Josefin Andersson from the South Carolina women’s tennis team each advanced to the finals of their respective flights at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Zubori won her third consecutive straight-set match in the maize draw by defeating Whitney Taney from Michigan 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals. In the blue draw, Andersson notched a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Mimi Nguyen, also of Michigan, to reach the finals.

Miljana Jocic won her second consolation match of the event with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Stephanie Danesis of Miami (Ohio) in the maize draw. It marked Jocic’s team-leading 10th win of the fall campaign. Also in the maize draw, Madeleine Saari-Byström lost in three sets to Eastern Michigan’s Xu Chang 3-6, 6-3, (10-7).

The Gamecocks went undefeated in doubles play in their three matches. Andersson and Jocic combined for a 9-7 win against Michigan’s Mahtani and Nguyen. Saari-Byström and Zubori upended Western Michigan’s duo of Matsuto and Pastunink 8-5 in their first match and then Michigan’s Muresan and Tatsuno by an 8-6 count.

Play concludes in the Wolverine Invitational on Sunday with matches starting at 10 a.m.
