ANN ARBOR, Mich.Ana Marija Zubori and Josefin Andersson from the South Carolina women’s tennis team reached the semifinals of their respective draws Friday at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Zubori, the top seed in the maize draw, defeated Julia Breuss of Eastern Michigan and then Stephanie Danesis of Miami (Ohio) both by scores of 6-0, 6-1 to reach the semifinals. Andersson won in three sets in her first match with Kelly Barry of Marquette 5-7, 7-5, (10-7) and then won 7-5, 6-3 over Michigan’s Michelle Sulahian in the quarters of the blue draw.

Also in the maize draw, Miljana Jocic lost her opening-round match with Michelle Sammons from Purdue 6-2, 3-6, (10-7), but she recovered with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Marquette’s Olga Fischer in the backdraw. Madeleine Saari-Byström lost to Jennifer Rabot from Purdue 6-2, 6-4 in her first match and advanced in the consolation draw by default.

The Gamecock doubles duo of Andersson and Jocic snagged a win against Sammons and Rabot 8-5 before the day ended. Zubori and Saari-Byström are scheduled to play Saturday.

Play continues in the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday with matches starting at 10 a.m.
