J. Dutch’s Blog | Semifinal Results
BERLIN – South Carolina rising junior Johnny Dutch ran a 49.28 in the 400-meter hurdles semifinals to take 12th at the IAAF World Championships held at Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany.
Dutch’s time was a tenth of a second faster than his preliminary run on Saturday, but the U.S. Championships runner-up was not able to secure an automatic bid to the finals after taking sixth in his heat. As one of the few collegiate men to make Team USA for the meet, Dutch will continue to look forward to defending his SEC Championship next year as a member of the South Carolina track and field team.
Competition at the championships resumes Monday, and a duo of former Gamecock women’s hurdlers will take the track for the first time at 12:15 p.m. EST. World leader Lashinda Demus and 2008 Olympic finalist Tiffany Ross-Williams will compete in Monday’s women’s 400-meter hurdles heats. Demus will run in lane five of the fifth heat; Ross-Williams will run in lane seven of the fourth heat. The top four runners in each heat earn automatic bids to Tuesday’s semifinal, and the next four fastest runners will also advance.
